We are helping for more than 35 years Philippine families who are in need, but just recently “Rice&Books.org e.V.” has been established and recognized 12/27/2018 as a non-profit organization.
We have started this project only in supporting our family, later also our neighborhood in our home town and now, we are supporting families who needs help.
This association works for disadvantaged children & their families, especially in Manila and Leyte (Visayas) near Cebu City.

Everyone can help someone
In the Philippines, more than 22 million inhabitants live in poverty and have to survive with an income of less than 1.70€ per day (monthly salary of about 51€). The belief in themselves and in a better life is fading. Despair and hopelessness are spreading.
Already at a young age, children experience being an outsider of society: they have little or no education, they struggle every day for some food or money and therefore, they have no perspective for themselves. As they grow up, children easily become victims of abuse, sexual violence (especially in big cities like Manila) and even human trafficking.
Our association “Rice&Books.org” wants to protect preventively, to free them from the cycle of inner and outer poverty and to give them hope and above all courage.
We can’t help everybody, but everyone can help someone.

A call for action supported 530 families
On November 8, 2013, super typhoon Haiyan (known as Yolanda in the Philippines) cut a swath of devastation through the Philippines. It was one of the most powerful tropical cyclones ever observed. In the Philippines alone, 6,300 people were killed. The eye of the storm passed over the country at speeds of up to 335 kilometers per hour. Hundreds of thousands of people – families and their children – suddenly lost everything. Their belongings, as well as family and relatives.
The founder’s home village was also affected by this natural disaster. Immediately she started in December a call for action with requesting for donations among friends, acquaintances, sports and coaching colleagues. She hoped for a donation of 300€, but it was exceeded within a very short time with 3000€!!! Great thank you to all donors!
Czarina’s two older sisters still live in the Philippines, the oldest works as an office worker in Manila and the other works as a teacher in her home village. In Manila, large quantities of medicine, hygiene items, water, rice, salt, sugar and large tents were purchased. Neighbors and children packed the goods in small relief packages for 3 days. It was loaded onto the ship in a container. The oldest sister Rosslyn and her little daughter Isis were also on the ship to make sure there was no theft or looting. Two days later they arrived at the port of Palompon, the home village of the founding family. A van, a driver and some helpers were organized for the next day.
More than 530 families received their aid package the following day. The large tents were distributed in the community.
